Microphone Technician

Students learn the parts of conventional and body pack microphones, proper body pack placement (including safety and sensitivity training), and how to troubleshoot and solve sound problems - with real-time experience running a live performance.

• Identify and set up multiple microphone systems
• Build communication skills to ensure proper wear and use of body packs
• Gain real-time experience running rehearsals and performances

What You'll Learn

• Microphone types and how a signal travels through the equipment
• Body pack setup, inspection, cleaning, and storage
• Building a mic plot with the Sound Engineer
• Giving clear, respectful directions to actors wearing mics
• Troubleshooting mic issues during tech and performances

Outcomes

• A basic understanding of microphones and amplification
• Communicating directions respectfully and working under show conditions
• Seeing a collaborative project through and understanding the importance of doing their part
